2014 is bringing a new tradition – Thanksgiving Day shopping – to thousands of stores that used to wait until Black Friday to open their doors.

Big chains like Sears and JC Penney caved in to the pressure to appeal to early-bird shoppers by opening a day early; for others like K-Mart, Thanksgiving Day shopping is already a 20-year tradition.

Many retailers feel additional pressure this year because of the poor economy; plus, Thanksgiving Day is coming on the latest possible date, November 28th; that means this year’s holiday shopping season will be several days shorter than last year’s.
