The cleanup is barely underway in Washington Illinois.

This city of 15,000 took a direct hit as the fingers of Sunday’s powerful storm system reached down and ripped a northeast path.

A car now sits atop what used to be an auto parts store while less than a mile away dozens of homes are badly damaged or simply gone.

Some from neighboring towns came here to help.

The only ones with power are those with generators.  Power lines are down and the city is dark.  A strict curfew is being enforced by multiple agencies here overnight.  Not only to keep people safe but to keep looters out.

Several shelters have been set up to take in those without a home.

The Red Cross is also in the area to help.
