Officer injured in accidental shooting at jail admin building

A Cook County sheriff’s officer suffered minor injuries after an accidental shooting at Cook County Jail’s administration building this afternoon.

The officer was shot in the foot a little after 3 p.m. when a service weapon discharged. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital.

A spokesperson says they do not know if it was the sheriff’s own gun or belonged to someone else.

The sheriff’s office is investigating how the shooting happened. Check back for details.
