The Grand Room at Union Station is decked out in red, white and blue today.

The event is one of many around the Chicago area honoring the brave men and women who have served in our armed forces to keep our country safe and strong.

Musical groups are playing patriotic songs and tables have been set up to assemble care packages, which will be sent to veterans.

Fifth Third Bank is sponsoring the program to help veterans blend back into society.

“Whether it be educational, jobs or medical, we want to be able to draw awareness and bring assistance to those needs,” said Fifth Third Bank President and CEO Robert Sullivan.
