Two former football players with ties to the Chicago area are suing the NFL and a helmet manufacturer claiming they developed brain damage from concussions.

Former Bears quarterback Bobby Bouglass and John Cornell, a former Northwestern player who participated in pro-training camps, say the league knew about the harmful effects of concussions but didn’t educate players about the risks.

The lawsuit, which seeks unspecified damages, also claims Riddel helmet manufacturer failed to warn players that helmets would not protect them from concussions.

The NFL and Riddel would not comment on the lawsuit.
