A stray pit bull managed to break loose and attack an animal control worker at a kennel in Little Village.

It happened Saturday morning in the 2700 block of S. Western Ave.

The kennel was housing the dog, hoping an owner would come forward to claim it; it had already been scheduled to be euthanized when it attacked the woman.

The 47-year-old victim suffered severe bite wounds; she is still being treated at a hospital this morning.

The dog was put to death.
