A girl on her way home from school yesterday was beaten by a man who tried to abduct her in Orland Hills.

The 12-year-old girl is a 7th grader at Prairie View Middle School in Tinley Park.  She got off the bus two blocks from her home at 169th St and 88th around 3:30.

She was alert enough to call 911 on her emergency cell phone to tell police someone was following her.  She gave them her location and then the phone went dead.

Minutes later police found the girl under a neighbor’s tree. She was unresponsive but alert.  She says a man in a ski mask and wearing gloves tried to drag her into a small red car driven by another man.

She fought hard but the man hit her in the abdomen with her book bag and slammed her head into a tree several times.

Zied Tarawneh usually walks his younger sister home after school but he stayed after yesterday and the two men took advantage of that.  He says she is undergoing tests to her brain and is in the hospital in stable condition.

Police ask anyone with information to call (708) 349-4434.
