Governor Pat Quinn is supporting solar technology on the rooftop at Shedd Aquarium. The million dollar solar panel project is part of the Shedd Aquarium’s clean-energy initiative. The project includes more than 900 solar panels.

According to Quinn, this is the largest solar installation at a cultural institution in the state. He said it will protect natural resources, create a cleaner environment and put people to work.

The state is investing more than $200,000  in the project. Shedd officials say they plan to cut energy consumption in half by the year 2020.
