A woman soldier returned home from Iraq disabled; but Ramina Oraha of Portage Park is getting some very special help.

The Home Depot Foundation put up the money, and volunteers performed the work, to give Ramina’s home a makeover.

The kitchen was upgraded, and the entire home was redesigned to make it more accessible.

Ramina lost her speech and the sight in her right eye; but she looks to the future with optimism and gratitude.

In a special commemoration Thursday, the Chicago fire department used the ladders on one of its trucks to raise a flag in Ramina’s honor; it now has a permanent place on the front of her house, to honor the returning war hero.
