Storms sweep through Chicago, Western suburbs

It was a big mess and a close call.

A massive tree fell onto the drive way of James Connelly’s home near Pick and Albert in Elmhurst during a strong thunderstorm Saturday evening.

Thunderstorms along with waves of strong winds and hard rains swept the area

In the city, there was some damage at 49th and Henderson a tree fell and damaged a car.

In the North Park neighborhood  at St. Louis and Carmen there was also flash flooding creating another hazard for drivers.

But for the most part it was a minor unconvinced leaving people running for cover or simply using an umbrella.

In the suburbs, shoppers at Village Crossing in Niles sprinted back to their cars to get out of the sudden downpour.

Around the area many saw tree limbs fall and their street flood temporarily.

But for the most part, most people made it through the storms without too much to complain about.
