An autopsy concludes that LaPorte High School linebacker Jake West died of a heart attack.

17-year-old West was a varsity linebacker at LaPorte High School.

He was running laps in full gear Wednesday afternoon when he was found on the ground with no pulse.

CPR got his pulse back, and got him breathing, but only briefly.

He died at the hospital an hour later.

At Friday’s varsity game in Merrillville, West’s teammates will wear special stickers on their helmets in his honor.
