Steppenwolf ensemble member receives MacArthur Fellowship

An ensemble member at the Steppenwolf Theatre Company has been awarded the 2013 MacArthur Fellowship.

Tarell McCraney is one of 24 people to receive the award.

He will get a total of $625,000 to spend as he sees fit.

The actor and playwright is a 2003 graduate of DePaul’s Theatre School.

He’s been with Steppenwolf since 2010.

He divides his time between Chicago, New York and London.

The prize is popularly known as the “genius grant.”
