Detectives tell WGN 3-year-old Lance Wilson was shot and killed during a game he was playing with his mother’s boyfriend.

Just a few hours ago, here at LaPorte County Superior Court, 24-year-old Zachariah Grisham was formally charged in the boy’s death.

Outside the mobile home park where the family lived, neighbors are shocked and saddened by the death of the child.

The boy was shot and killed about 3:30 Sunday afternoon inside his home. Detectives say it may have happened during a game being played with his mother’s boyfriend, 24 year old Zach Grisham.

“We belive it was a game where one of them pointed a fake gun and the suspect took a real gun and pulled the trigger. And it was loaded, obviously,” said Det. Sgt. Andy Hynek, LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department.

He says the boy’s mother and other children, possibly distant relatives, were inside the home when the shooting occurred.

Grisham is being held on $100,000 bail and is charged with reckless homicide and neglect of a dependent.

LaPorte County prosecutors continue to look at the case.  So far, no charges are filed against Lance Wilson’s mother.

Grisham will be back in court for arraignment on Thursday.
