Buy a book about bonsai and conduct research on the internet.

Start at the beginning:
Don’t buy the most expensive tools or materials to begin with. Start with a set of beginning bonsai scissors.

Learn from others:
Take a class, such as the Prairie State Bonsai Society workshops available at our show at the Morton Arboretum. Join a bonsai club and benefit from other members experience.

Stay positive:
Don’t get discouraged if your first tree does not survive.  Remember this is a learning process.  Even bonsai masters have trees that die.
