Milwaukee has a great supply of its next weapon against icy roads this winter.

The city is trying to find an alternative to rock salt, so officials are considering using cheese brine instead.

They say the cheese brine’s salt and water mixture could be more environmentally friendly and cost effective.

Polk County has been using cheese brine since 2009.

County officials say the change saved them $40,000 in the first year.
