Family looking for answers after man beaten on Near West Side

A family is looking for answers after a man was found beaten on the Near West Side.

Was it a random attack or a bar fight that left 31-year-old Andrew O’Connell with a severe brain injury?

He’s in a medically-induced coma at Rush University Medical Center.

His sister says he was at a bar in the 1400 block of Taylor St Friday night.

Police say he was found unresponsive on the street nearby early Saturday.

He did not appear to have been robbed.

Family members say Andrew is an easy-going guy and was excited about a new job.  They’re asking any witnesses to what happened to contact police.  His friends have set up an account to help with medical costs and care.  You can donate at
