Shootings leave 6 hurt, 2 critically

Shootings late Saturday and early this morning left six people injured, two of them critically, authorities said.

In the most recent shooting, about 4:45 a.m a 34-year-old man was shot in the 3900 block of West Wilcox Street, Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.

The man had been sitting in a vehicle when someone approached and opened fire, hitting him multiple times in the chest and leg, police said.  He was taken  to Mount Sinai, where he was listed in serious condition.

Earlier, a 24-year-old man was shot in the lower back about 3:40 a.m.  in the 5500 block of South Mozart Street, Greer said.

The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.

Also this morning, three people were shot about 2:50 a.m. in the 0-100 block of West 114th Street, Greer said. One of them, a 25-year-old man, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition.

A 19-year-old woman was shot in the hand and taken to Advocate Christ, and a 27-year-old woman was shot in the foot and taken to Roseland Community Hospital. Both their conditions were stabilized.

Saturday night, a 19-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to the hand in the Park Manor neighborhood.

The man told police someone in a white car fired at him about 9:50 p.m. in the 6800 block of South Champlain Avenue, police said.

But police officers found a shell casing inside his home on the block and are working to determine whether the man’s wound was self-inflicted, police said.

The man was taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was listed in good condition, police said.
