A search is underway for an inmate who escaped from the Robinson Correctional Center downstate.
The Illinois Department of Corrections says Jared Carter walked away from the minimum-security facility, about 110 miles southeast of Champaign near the Indiana border, while he was doing lawn work outside the prison Friday morning.

An  IDOC spokesman says Carter was working outside the walls of the prison under supervision.

He was serving a ten year sentence for residential burglary and was scheduled to be paroled in 2016.
Police say Carter is considered to be dangerous.
