How to Update Cabinets

This weekend project has the ability to transform your kitchen without hurting your wallet. Follow these steps from Sean Buino of Dad’s Handyman Service and make sure you’re kitchen is fully stocked – once people get a look of this, they won’t want to leave.


  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • 220-grit sandpaper
  • Sanding sponges
  • Detail sander
  • Tack cloth
  • Masking tape
  • Primer
  • Paint brushes
  • White paint
  • Paint tray
  • Foam paint roller


  1. Remove hardware
  2. Scuff/sand surfaces
  3. Wipe clean with tack cloth
  4. Apply primer
  5. paint box and doors, let dry
  6. Reattach doors

This project is moderately difficult. Plan to devote a weekend to this DIY project, which will cost around $110.
