Boy, 17, dies after being pulled from Bolingbrook quarry

A 17-year-old boy was pronounced dead after being pulled from a Bolingbrook quarry that was filled with water.

Javier Vera was swimming laps with friends across a  section of the quarry in the 1400 block of W. 135th St, when he began to struggle and went under.

The two other boys attempted to render aid but were unsuccessful, he went under the water and did not resurface.

Plainfield Dive Team located the boy just after 9 p.m.

Vera was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police are investigating the drowning.
