Man questioned in baseball bat attack on cop

A man suspected of beating a Chicago police officer with a baseball bat is being questioned at Area South Police Headquarters.

The incident happened early Saturday as the officer tried to break up a fight in West Englewood.

The 29-year-old suspect was taken into custody around 8:30 p.m. Monday in the Pullman neighborhood.

No charges have been filed.

The officer, who joined the department in 2009, was taken in serious condition to the hospital, but has since been released.

Court records show the suspect has an arrest record that includes murder and cocaine possession charges.
