Man, 50, charged in chainsaw attack against neighbor

Charges have been filed against the man who police say attacked his neighbor with a chainsaw.

Anthony Metcalf, 50, has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Preston Smith, 55, was drinking with Metcalf in his backyard in Washington Heights on Tuesday night.

Police say at some point, the men got into an argument and Metcalf reportedly lost his temper and attacked Smith with the chainsaw.

The chainsaw injured smith’s fingers on his left hand and also damaged his car.

Smith had surgery on Wednesday and will be discharged from the hospital today.

Neighbors say Metcalf and Smith have been friends for 40 years.

Metcalf is expected to appear in bond court today.
