Man in custody after attacking neighbor with chainsaw on South Side

A 50-year-old man is in custody after a violent chainsaw attack in the Washington Heights neighborhood on the South Side.

55-year old Preston Smith was drinking with his neighbor in his backyard on 103rd Street on Tuesday night.

At some point, the men got into an argument, and the neighbor reportedly lost his temper and attacked smith with the chainsaw.

The chainsaw injured Smith’s fingers on his left hand, and also damaged his car.

Smith underwent surgery Wednesday.

His condition is not clear at this time.
