Gov. Pat Quinn’s recent appointment to the CTA Board, Frank Zuccarelli, is bowing out in what appears to be a casualty of the primary fight between Bill Daley and the governor.

Zuccarelli is the Thornton Township supervisor.

Daley slammed the CTA gig as smacking of double-dipping and patronage.

Zucarelli’s withdrawal letter reads: “Given the events of recent weeks, I do not want political grandstanding to distract from the critical issues…or stand in the way of what people in the south suburbs need.”
