A boil order remains in effect until at least noon on Wednesday in North Suburban Deerfield after fecal matter was found in the town’s water supply.

Testing is continuing on the water supply.

Trace amounts of human or animal waste can cause diarrhea, headaches and nausea.

People in Deerfield are being urged to boil any water used for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing their teeth and food preparation.

The order has now forced several businesses to close.

It’s too early to pinpoint the source of contamination.

Village officials are hopeful the problem has worked its way out of the water system, but urge residents to continue boiling water until they can confirm the threat has passed.
