Security cameras in a hair salon in Evanston could help police find the suspect in a violent sexual assault.

Police responded to a call around 6 a.m. Tuesday after a 19-year-old woman was grabbed outside of Hair FX in the 1700 block of Howard St.

According to a statement from police, the woman was dragged across the street and sexually assaulted in the gangway of a building.

The woman was able to escape and flagged down a passing Chicago police officer.

Police posted the video in the hope that someone will recognize the suspect.

The suspect is described as a black male in his 30s, wearing a blue ball cap and black T-shirt with a slim build.

Police are asking anyone who may have been passing through the area at that time and may have seen something that would help identify the suspect to call Evanston Police at 847-866-5040.
