A Glendale Heights man is accused of trying to hire a hitman to kill his aunt, uncle and grandfather because they accused him of stealing jewelry.

Matthew Olszewski, 23, was ordered held on $1 million bail on three counts of solicitation of murder and three counts of solicitation of murder for hire.

DuPage County Sheriff’s detectives worked with the Glendale Heights police and the State’s Attorney’s office after receiving a tip that Olszewski was interested in hiring a hitman.

Olszewski arranged a meeting with the hitman, who was actually an undercover officer.

He reportedly intended to pay for the murders with cash he stole in burglaries.

Olszewski was already in custody for theft and weapons charges.

He was charged Thursday.
