This project will literally open doors for you (or keep them closed if that’s the problem). We teamed up with Michael Goldstein, AKA the Mensch with the Wrench, to close the door on loose knobs and sticking, squeaky, and phantom doors. Here’s what you can do:

Supplies:

  • Drill
  • Hammer
  • Flat and Phillips head screwdrivesr
  • Nine 2-inch wood screws
  • Silicone grease

Step-by-Step:

Loose door knob:

  1. Tighten all screws

Sticking door:

  1. Replace original screws with 2-inch wood screws

Squeaky door:

  1. Protect flooring with towel
  2. Remove each pin
  3. Grease pins
  4. Reinsert each pin

Phantom door:

  1. Remove middle pin
  2. Slightly bend pin with hammer
  3. Reinsert pin

This task is both easy and cheap! Plan about 15 minutes and $5!
