A woman has been charged with drunk driving in connection with a crash that injured 11 people, most of them children.

The crash happened around 12:15 Friday morning on I-57 near 99th street.

Police say a Chevy Suburban was heading south when it suddenly veered off the road onto an embankment and rolled over.

A five-year-old boy was seriously injured,  and a 20-year-old woman remains hospitalized at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn.

The others were treated for minor injuries and released.

Investigators say only some of the children, ranging in age from 4 to 14, were wearing seatbelts.

Tonica Cornwell, 30, a mother of several passengers, has been charged with driving under the influence and nine counts of child endangerment.
