The Cubs will get a look at one of their top prospects when Junior Lake joins the team for the second half.
The 23-year-old outfielder and third baseman was hitting .295 with 14 steals at Triple-A Iowa. He’ll replace Brian Bogusevic, who will be placed on the 15-day disabled list with a left hamstring injury he reaggravated on Sunday.
Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer said last week they didn’t want to bring Lake up and hinder his development, but the outfield situation at Iowa is thin and Lake was apparently their only feasible option. David DeJesus is rehabbing in Mesa, Ariz. and will likely begin a minor league rehab stint this week.
