Evergreen Park, Waukegan reject ban on assault weapons

gunsTwo suburbs have decided against banning assault weapons.

Monday night, officials in Evergreen Park rejected the ban after hearing from gun advocates at a village board meeting.

The proposal would have banned semi-automatic rifles with large-capacity magazines.

Officials also rejected the ban in north suburban Waukegan.

Suburbs with more than 25,000 people have until Friday to ban assault weapons within their borders, due to a provision in the state’s new concealed carry law.

Homewood, Hazel Crest, Calumet Park, North Chicago, and Highland Park have all passed assault weapons bans.
