Grass fire at FAA facility in Elgin causes delays at O’Hare

A number of flights  delays were delays at O’Hare and Midway airports Saturday afternoon due to a grass fire that broke-out at the FAA’s Tracon facility in Elgin.

At 4:30 PM, a grass fire caused problems with the water pressure at the Elgin Tracon facility, triggering fire sensors in the building.

An FAA spokesperson said controllers evacuated from  the building and air traffic control was transferred to the Chicago center in Aurora.

The situation lasted around 45 minutes, and all departing flights were kept on the ground during that time.
