Significantly, wetter weather—including the potential for some active and possibly drenching clusters of thunderstorms—appears to loom in the days ahead.

While thunderstorm development is to be scattered in the warmer hours of coming days, it’s the positioning of an unseasonably strong jet stream through Chicago’s airspace later Monday and, even more so, Tuesday into Wednesday morning, which may instigate more numerous and better organized storm clusters.

While rainfall projections for Chicago off multiple models over the past several days have averaged 1.95”, heavier 4”+ totals have been put forth by several of the most aggressive numerical forecast scenarios.

History has shown that the appearance of rain projections of that magnitude suggest at least parts of the Chicago area may actually see totals which reach that level.
