Chicago’s only female mayor Jane Byrne hospitalized

Jane ByrneChicago’s only female Mayor was reportedly taken to a hospital this week.

The Sun-Times says former Mayor Jane Byrne was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital by ambulance on Monday.

She reportedly suffers from multiple medical problems, and had a stroke in January.

Byrne is 79 years old.

She served as Mayor of Chicago from 1979 to 1983, when her bid for re-election ended with a Democratic primary loss to Harold Washington.
