A mother and her child were wounded in a shooting near Murray Park in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood Sunday evening.
Leslie Freeman, 27, was shot in the arm and her 1-year old son, Demonte, was shot in the leg, relatives said at the scene near 73rd and Wood.
“Everyone is doing okay for now,” said Freeman’s uncle, John Edwards. He said 4 women and 5 children were resting in Leslie’s van after playing at the park, when another van drove by and someone inside opened fire.
Relatives drove the injured mother and son to Holy Cross Hospital. The boy was transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening, Edwards said.
