Flash flood watch in effect for northeast Illinois

Showers and thunderstorms are moving across central and northern Illinois this morning, and there could be an inch or more of rain in some areas.

The heaviest rain has been falling along and just south of Interstate 80. Showers and thunderstorms should reach at least the western portions of Chicago by mid-morning before gradually dissipating.

A flash flood watch was in effect until  7 p.m. today Winnebago, Boone, Ogle, Lee, DeKalb and LaSalle counties in Illinois. The cities of Rockford, Belvidere, Oregon, Dixon, DeKalb and Ottawa are affected.Humid, stormy weather is expected into the middle of the week, with highs in the uppers 80s to lower 90s. Temperatures would drop to 80 under sunny skies by Friday.
