fatherpflegarmarchagainstviolenceIt’s the first day of summer, and there will be yet another march against violence on Chicago’s South Side today.

The city’s murder rate is currently down, compared to last year at this time.

But, police know that summer weather typically means more street violence, and more shootings.

Father Michael Pfleger says he expects more than 2,000 people to join him for today’s march.

Father Pfleger says the key to reducing violence is people looking out for their neighbors, block by block.

That’s the problem. They do not look out for their neighborhood. They do these walks just to be on TV. When they see groups of guys hanging on corners or at stores they should be calling the police. They do that at our neighborhoods whether Hispanic or white. It’s the parents that allow their kids to be out there and don’t care. They are the ones that are just shooting whoever they feel like it.
