femaassistancelineThousands of people lost a lot of money when flooding ravaged Illinois in April.

Today is the deadline for the flood victims to apply for state aid with their food bills.

The Disaster Supplemental Assistance Program (SNAP) pays up to $200 for singles, and up to $367 for couples who meet the state’s income requirements, and who can present proof that they suffered serious losses to their properties.

Benefits will be based on each family’s income and assets; the state checks may be used to buy food, but not alcohol or cigarettes.

The state aid is good for 90 days.

Applicants for the assistance must apply in person by 1 p.m. today at designated SNAP disaster offices.
