Former Gary mayor Rudy Clay dies

The colorful former mayor of Gary, Indiana, Rudy Clay, has died.

Clay served Gary as mayor and had a political career spanning 40 years.

Two years ago, clay bowed out of politics after being diagnosed with prostate cancer.

He’s being remembered as a bold politician who held many offices in Lake County, Indiana.

He was a state senator, a county recorder, a county commissioner and finally mayor.

Current Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson says she was a cherished icon with a heart for the citizens of Gary.
