A West Suburban mall is cracking down on teens, and telling them to hang out somewhere else on weekends.

mallThe North Riverside Mall is now the first in the Chicago area to require adult escorts for teenagers. The new policy went into effect Friday night.

Anyone 17 or younger must be supervised by an adult, anytime after 6 pm on Friday and Saturday nights.

A spokesperson says the mall has become a hangout for teens who aren’t usually shopping. They hope the policy will help increase business.

Similar policies are being used at malls across the country.

All shopping malls are teen hangouts. A mall should be a safe place where teens can meet and socialize. The problem with this idea is that these particular kids parents ain’t much older then they are. Perhaps a heavier security hand for the unruly patrons.

If the teens conducted them better, the malls would not have to this, the teens caused this problem, they have only them selves to blame.

you are right. i knew where my kids where who they were with and they were not allowed to hang out just because . if they were not doing somehing constructive or with a purpose they were in the house with my husband and i . we were very young parents and we kept a careful and protective eye on them. they are now resposible and productive adults

These kids walk around the mall staring into their cell phones not even watching where they're going and everyone else has to watch out for them. It's quite annoying to say the least..

Enrique, how are the malls supposed to pay for the increase in security? The police departments are cutting back, and because the economy is so bad, the stores & malls do not have the money for security either.
