A man from Chicago was shot to death in the Bahamas.

Relatives have identified the victim as Kyle Bruner.

They say Bruner was trying to help a woman who was being mugged by two men in the city of Nassau early Sunday.

The men were armed and shot Bruner.

“It was very much in his character,” said the victim’s father Rick Bruner. “He never liked bullies, and he never stood for people around him being bullied.  So, this what he would do.  In retrospect, you say maybe he should have avoided the situation but that’s not really who he was or the person that we loved.”

Bruner was a private sailor and was working on a tall ship in the Bahamas.

He was set to leave the island next week.

Bruner’s family is having him cremated.
