FBI agents shot a robbery suspect and captured two others outside of a bank in Richmond, located in McHenry County.

FBI agents tracked a silver Honda Civic to Associated Bank on Main Street.  Agents had been following the car along Interstate 90 then up to Richmond.

The FBI says the suspects were possibly involved in previous bank robberies and were planning to rob the bank in Richmond.

At about 11:30 this morning, agents confronted the suspects in the parking lot.

FBI spokesperson Joan Hyde said that “there was gunfire exchanged, and agents did fire a fatal shot.”

One suspect was killed and the other two were captured.

Witnesses say the suspect who was killed was in the driver’s seat wearing a mask.  The suspects never made it into the bank.  The entire confrontation was outside.

An FBI spokesperson provided regular updates, but didn’t provide any details in regards to the investigation.

The FBI secured the scene while investigators processed evidence.  Local law enforcement assisted in traffic control.

Neighbors say it was the most action the small town had seen in a long time.

Richmond resident Katherine Hewlett said, “from what I understand it was over pretty quickly, especially because we live so close to the commercial area here.”
