The list of most popular baby names of 2012 has been released.

Jacob was last year’s most frequent name for babies, just as it’s been every year since 1999.

The government compiles a list of names from applications for Social Security cards every year.

The other top boys names include: Mason, Ethan, Noah and William.

Sophia was the most popular name for girls.

The rest of the female top five were: Emma, Isabella, Olivia and Ava.

Names that are spelled several different ways, like Caitlyn, are listed separately under each spelling.
