There is a glimmer of new hope for 14 Chicago Public Schools currently facing closure.

The Chicago school board is set to vote May 22 on the closure or consolidation of 54 failing schools.CPS

But, independent hearing officers have come out against closing these schools:  Melody Elementary, Calhoun, Mahalia Jackson, King, Manierre, Mayo, Morgan, Overton, Stewart, Stockton, Williams Elementary and Williams Middle School, Near North and Buckingham.

In some cases, the hearing officers said the displaced students’ new schools are no better than the ones they’re leaving.

In others, the officers say cited neighborhood safety concerns.

I am a parent at Williams and this is what we have said for the past months…..In our case Williams has the better scores of the two schools in question

As a parent at Courtenay, we hope they listen to the hearing officer! We are a spotlight school- low income and high performing. Top 25 schools by Chicago Magazine and the proposal is to "relocate" our 100% lottery small school model into a lower performing neighborhood school. We are being closed with no reason behind it.
