The James Beard Foundation’s annual awards, widely considered the Academy Awards of the culinary industry, has just awarded Chicago’s  ‘The Aviary’ for having the country’s Outstanding Bar Program.

More cocktail lounge than bar, The Aviary is owned and operated by Nick Kokonas and Chef Grant Achatz, the men behind acclaimed restaurants ‘Alinea’ and ‘Next.’

The Beard Foundation’s annual award goes to, “An establishment that displays and encourages excellence in cocktail, spirits, and/or beer service.”
