A man was shot and killed by Chicago police officers Sunday after reportedly firing shots at pedestrians in the area.

Chicago Police released a statement saying Ogden District tactical Officers were in the area of Independence Blvd and 13th St in the city’s Lawndale neighborhood when they saw a gunman firing shots at pedestrians and fleeing on a bicycle.

“The officers were pursuing the offender when he turned towards the officers and fired shots at them. Due to this action, the officers discharged their weapons and struck the offender,” the statement said.

Residents watched this evening as police searched the area for evidence, some officers had rifles in their hands.

“We heard a lot of gunshots, at least 6 gunshots and police were coming,” said witness Kendra Scott.  “As we walked over we saw the boy was laying there.  They handcuffed him after he was deceased.”

The gunman was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai hospital.

Police say a handgun was covered at the scene.

The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating.

By tomorrow we will see a picture of the idiot in his cap and gown (more than likely from 8th grade). Someone will be claiming he was a good kid, made everyone smile, was a great dad, and was just about to turn his life around… Oh, and they will claim CPD was wrong for shooting him somehow..

Well lets not be the judge and the jury in this situation that's God's job however; it can definitely be said that accountability means that you reap what you sew. Let's just be grateful that no one innocent was injured, and hope the victim's family can understand that CPD had no other choice but to use deadly force. To all the other people who left unsavory comments, let's not combat ignorance with ignorance.

Gotta love the comment ” they put cuffs on him even after he was deceased “, because cops should now be doctors also and determine if they are dead before they cuff them for their safety. Unless the dudes head has been removed i believe the cop is justifed to assume that the guy could still be alive!

stop attempting to be someone that you are not……first of all you are a white person, attempting, very badly, to write like an uneducated person…….you are only trying to see if and who will start a lot of comments because you probably have no life outside of sitting in front of your computer all day. Come on guy, get a life!

You people are sick. Regardless to what type of child he was, he is dead. Young or old, a life was taken. It is always sad when a life is taken, whether it be by the hands of CPD ot at the hands of one another, a life is still a life. it doesn't matter whether the child was good or bad, he is still dead. Everyone is not always on welfare and getting food stamps. Some people do work.
