Firefighter hurt battling house fire in Homewood

A firefighter in South Suburban Homewood was injured while battling a house fire early Sunday morning.

It started in the garage at 3033 Hedgerow then spread to the front of the house, gutting much of the structure and destroying at least one vehicle and damaging another.

The firefighter injured his leg and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The homeowner was able to escape and no other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
