The water along the Fox and Des Plaines Rivers is receding, but not fast enough for homeowners who’ve been under water since Thursday.

Tuesday’s rain has also slowed the process.

Governor Quinn has declared 42 counties disaster areas and he’s asked FEMA to help with the damage assessments throughout the state.

Quinn has also granted a tax extension to all businesses and residents who were due to file tax returns on or after April 19th.

That deadline is now extended to October 31st and taxpayers will not face a late fine.

Des Plaines roads still closed due to flooding:

  • River Road/Rand to Touhy
  • Golf Road/River to East River
  • Central Rd. /River to East River
  • Algonquin Rd./River to Lee Street
  • Busse Hwy/from Miner to Des Plaines city limits
