Trial date set for 2 charged in Bucktown bat attack

A trial date has been set for two people charged in the beating that left a visiting graduate student permanently disabled.

The trial will start September 9th for Heriberto Viramontes and Marcy Cruz.

The two face 25 felony counts a piece, including robbery and attempted murder.

Prosecutors say Viramontes attacked Natasha McShane and Stacy Jurich with a baseball bat in Bucktown three years ago Tuesday.

McShane underwent multiple surgeries after the attack.

She is now unable to speak or walk.

    I feel for the child. At least the attack didn't happen on the West or South side. Goes to show you that there is violence on whatever side of town you live in.

        At least the attack didn't happen on the South or West sides? Really?? You know that you're from the ghetto when you're relieved that a violent crime actually DIDN'T happen in your neighborhood.

    Why are they not already doing life in prison? Three years later and a trial date has just been set? How absolutely awful for the families who deserved justice a long time ago.
