Tax filing deadline today, April 15

It’s April 15th and the Postal Service is doing its annual favor for procrastinators. taxes

It’ll keep the main post office downtown open until midnight Monday to accept those last-minute income tax returns.

Collectors will be stationed along West Harrison Street and Canal Street from late afternoon to midnight to accept dropped-off tax returns from customers.

The post office building will also stay open for customers who need to buy postage or add Certified Mail, Delivery Confirmation or Signature Confirmation to their returns.

All other Chicago-area Post Offices, stations and branches will close at their regular times.

So double check that IRS mailing address and make sure you have enough stamps on the envelope.

Uncle Sam doesn’t accept returns that arrive postage due.
